Description
As a Commercial Scientific Affairs Director, you will report to the Sales department, this specialist role will be very cross-functional, in that it will be an integral part of the account management team including but not limited to local sales representatives and/or distributor partners, other Specialists such as those in the Transplant or Transfusion fields, Marketing, Technical Support, Contracting, Legal, and other departments critical to maintaining existing business with an eye towards developing new business. As part of the Sales account management team, the Director of Scientific Affairs will also be involved in helping to build the annual territory plan which feeds into the annual Budget and five year strategy process. In addition to having strong technical and scientific skills to ensure credibility with customers, the successful candidate will also have a strong commercial orientation with an eagerness to develop effective sales and marketing skills. These will include proper questioning protocols to understand customer needs, strong presentation and objection handling skills, and business acumen to ensure contracts are effectively negotiated and closed. Additional responsibilities of the Commercial Scientific Affairs Director include:

Meet revenue, profit and penetration / market share goals.

Function as a technical and scientific Transplant subject matter expert to support the account management team in renewing and closing new contracts.

Work with North America Sales Director of Transplant to create a territory plan to include but not limited to understanding all customers and identifying renewal and new business opportunities. Be an active member of the Sales team to build forecasts and the annual Budget.

Support other departments that may benefit from scientific expertise such as Marketing for User Needs or Webinar / related speaker programs.

Develop strong relationships with key opinion leaders to advance penetration of Immucor products.

Meet Operating Expense budget.
Requirements
As a Commercial Scientific Affairs Director, you must have a demonstrated ability to adhere closely to department procedures at all times. Also, you must possess people skills that will allow you to lead the lab, maintain department morale, and interact cooperatively with workers from other departments.
Specific requirements for this management role will include:

Doctoral degree (PHD) or equivalent; or more than ten years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination or education and experience.

Must have strong analytical, communication and leadership skills.

In order to support the field sales team, they should have strong sales skills and be an effective coach and trainer to transfer knowledge.

Must adhere to the Quality System and all aspects of ethical and legal behavior is required.

60-70% travel will be required to include customer visits and field sales support, congresses, internal meetings, key opinion leaders and speaker program support and other as appropriate to accomplish the assigned duties.
